What is a bakery tart?

A pie is a baked dish that consists of a filling on a dough base with an open top not covered with dough. The dough is usually shortcrust pastry; the filling can be sweet or savory, although modern cakes are usually fruit-based, sometimes with custard. Tartlet refers to a miniature cake; an example would be egg tartlets. The categories of pie, custard, quiche and pie overlap, without sharp distinctions.
